Using Technology at Communicate

Technology can be a fantastic way to learn English, so how do we do it at Communicate?

By David Latham, teacher.

  • MAKING VIDEOS

Watching videos and clips is a great way to be exposed to English, but we don’t only watch videos at Communicate, we make them! Interviews, role plays, mini-movies – our students are very creative. Creating videos helps our students with many aspects of language learning, and it’s great fun too. When the videos are finished we dim the lights and watch them on our big screens. It’s like being at the cinema.

  • QUIZZES AND GAMES

Another great way that we use technology is to check understanding through quizzes and games. Students compete against each other to answer questions of all kinds. It can get very competitive, but at the end everyone laughs – especially the winners.

  • WRITING TOGETHER

Using technology we can do all sorts of writing together. Last week, my Elementary class was talking about ambitions. Using tablets with Padlet (a communal writing app) and a projector we were able to share our ambitions as messages. Not only that, but other students could give advice as to how to achieve our goals. It was a lot of fun and I think we helped each other!
